ABOUT OUR CHURCH: Berea Christian Church was organized in 1858 after three years of regular monthly services by residents of the
Nansemond County community of Driver. The original building for worship was dedicated in 1861 and has been described as a frame building much like the usual country church of that period. The present
church building was erected in 1891 as a greatly admired example of Gothic Architecture. The skilled craftsmanship of the building came largely from the artisans from the parish and resulted in impressive vaulted woodwork, ornamental
beams, a steep slated room, stained glass windows and carved symbols of Christ and the twelve Disciples. The building itself encourages the wide and rich expression of hope and trust in God which
prevails in the congregation.
