Vacation Bible School Highlights
This year’s community Vacation Bible School was a success! A total of 31 children attended with 14 of those associated with members of Berea. Glebe Church provided the site, teachers, and snacks; Beech Grove Methodist oversaw games/activities; and Berea coordinated the crafts. The theme “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus” was incorporated into every aspect of Bible School.
The first craft involved decorating treasure chests. Inside the top of the chest was a paper with the VBS theme. Treasures that the children received for their chests were items that might be found if shipwrecked on an island. Treasures included sea glass, feathers, $1 rings, sharks teeth, gems, old buttons, gold coins with Bible verses, and a map.
For the second craft children decorated a picture frame with colorful seashells. The insert had each child’s picture in the center of a life preserver with the caption “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus, VBS 2018.”
Children also made bead bracelets with their names and painted rocks. Additionally, children received a packet with materials and instructions to make a bead “salvation” bracelet at home. Also included in their packets was a card explaining the meaning of the colors (yellow = heaven/eternal life, black = sin, red = precious blood of Jesus, white = purity, green = spiritual growth).
Berea was well represented in this community endeavor. A total of 11 volunteers from Berea assisted with various tasks in preparation for and during the week of Bible School. Additionally, 8 individuals/families donated money to offset the cost of crafts. Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way! Children and adults enjoyed working and fellowshipping with other Christians and reinforcing the theme that Jesus is always there for us…He rescues us!
